Expansion of Heathrow Terminal 5 Central Search Facility to facilitate the increased security requirements, and rising passenger numbers.
£8 million, 12 months programme duration.
Client Project Manager.
The project involved the demolition of existing accommodation to provide the necessary space for the additional security lanes.
Before the accommodation could be demolished, all the existing security lanes in the North Central Search, and the South Central search had to be relocated to make room for the construction works.
All works were undertaken while the search area was operational, with minimal disruption to the passengers and staff.
Planning the lanes closures involved close liaison with the terminal management team to ensure the predicted passenger flows were taken into account.
The works involved some heavy lifting of steelwork to facilitate the demolition.
There was a requirement to have all additional security capacity operational by the end of May 2012, due to heavy predicted passenger flows. The required completion date was met.
